Jose Mourinho’s side were stunned on the south-coast as Glenn Murray and Duffy both found the back of the net within two first-half minutes.
Romelu Lukaku pulled one back but Pascal Gross slotted home from the spot to seal the victory as Paul Pogba’s late, late penalty came just as a consolation at the death.

Derry native Duffy, who was also named Sky Sports’ Man of the Match, was pleased to fire home from close range and help his side back on track after a frustrating 2-0 defeat to Watford last week.
“It was nice,” the 26-year-old told Brighton’s official website upon reflection. “I could have got on the first ball into the box but just missed it, so it was nice to finish the second one.
“I don’t score many, but that one was good. I’m a little disappointed I haven’t scored more, but it was big scoring against Manchester United at home.
“We just didn’t turn up last week; obviously it’s not hard to get up for a big game and being at home makes a huge difference to us. We have to take that into our away form now.”
First prem goal 😃⚽️ what a performance from the lads and a result we needed! We go again on Saturday 🔵⚪️ #bhafcpic.twitter.com/VRxOiD7JtT
Next up for the Seagulls is a trip to Anfield next Saturday, but Duffy isn’t getting too carried away by the United result.
“We still have the same goals in this league,” he added.
“We just need to get as many points as we can and take it game by game.
“We obviously loved the result and it’s three points, but we know what’s coming up next, so we need to get ready and dust ourselves down. Now it’s all about preparing for Liverpool.”
