OFFALY GOLFER SHANE Lowry has spoken about parting ways with his long-standing caddie Dermot Byrne and the experience of having his brother, Alan, stand in recently.
Lowry had a strong few days of action at the PGA Championship in Missouri and was well in contention at times but finished tied for 12th.
He admits that he didn’t have the finish that he wanted but looking back, he was pleased with his run overall and it was made all the more special by the family involvement.

His father was there watching on, which wasn’t particularly pre-planned, so that made for a few nice moments.
“And then when Alan [his brother] was going to caddie for me, I said to him, ‘You might as well come over because it might never happen again’, and we just had such a good week, the three of us together.”
Alan is on the bag for now as Lowry looks for a replacement for Byrne after nine successful years together.

“It was probably one of the most difficult things I had to do,” Lowry added, saying that he’s kept a good relationship with Byrne since the split.
“We spoke a little bit last week. We were on a charter flight down here to Wyndham and we sat beside each other on the plane and stuff.
“We’re still good friends. He’s been very good to me and I’ve been good to him so that’s kind of the way we left it.”
