LAST UPDATE | 10 Aug 2018

PHIL HEALY HAS booked her spot in the 200m semi-finals while Ciara Mageean has progressed to the final of the 1500m final at the European Championships in Berlin.

Healy clinched a third-place finish in her heat after clocking a time of 23.34 to progress to the next stage having finished seventh in the semi-final of the 100m earlier in the week.

The Cork woman, who holds the national record over 200m, looked assured and confident as she stormed around the bend and her time should be enough to secure a good lane in the semis.

“It was all bout getting the qualification again today, came out got the third spot,” she told Athletics Ireland after the 200m heat.

“I’ll go back to the hotel and recover and do it again later.

“I was very happy, it was all about getting the run out this morning, get my spot and then give it my all when I come back out later on again.”

Meanwhile, Mageean looked composed and relaxed as she eased her way into Sunday’s final of the 1500m after finishing second in heat 1.

She finished her race in a time of 4:09.35 which grants her automatic qualification into the final.

Mageean stayed with the leading pack throughout the race before edging her way up to the front to take second place on the final 100m.

“I’ve been watching some of the races here already and championship running can be messy, so I knew [not to] get myself boxed in,” she told RTÉ Sport after the race.

“There’s some good, fast girls in my race and you get yourself in a position you can’t get out [of], then you’re in trouble.

“I just held my ground, a few people want to cut across and you have to let them know that you’re there. I felt good and looking forward to the final now.

“I don’t come into a championship unless I believe I’m going to go and give 100% and hopefully that will reap the rewards that I want. It’s going to be a tough race out there so hopefully give a good account of myself.”

Elsewhere, Kerry O’Flaherty clocked a time of 10:09.81 to finish 17th in her heat of the 3,000m steeplechase while Michelle Finn claimed 16th in 10:10.93.
