'For me, Dublin will always be green and white' - Keeper Chencinski departs Rovers

Shamrock Rovers confirmed the news this afternoon.

SHAMROCK ROVERS HAVE confirmed that that Israeli-born Canada goalkeeper Tomer Chencinski has departed the club.

“Shamrock Rovers FC and Tomer Chencinski have today agreed to terminate the goalkeeper’s playing contract by mutual consent,” the SSE Airtricity League Premier Division club said in a statement.

“Tomer joined the club in 2017 and had kept 17 clean sheets in 49 appearances including two in last year’s Europa League win over Stjarnan as the Hoops finished in third place in the league.

“All at Shamrock Rovers thanks Tomer for his time with the club and wish Tomer well in the future.”

Chencinski joined the Hoops as their new number one at the start of last season, and was well received at the club. He lost his place to Kevin Horgan at the beginning of this campaign, but did start while he was out injured

But 16-year-old star Gavin Bazunu has since been elevated to the top of the pecking order, catching the eye with some outstanding performances.

And with Northern Ireland international Alan Mannus recently re-signing for the side, Chencinski had been pretty much out of the picture.

“It has not been an easy decision, but with a heavy heart I say goodbye to Shamrock Rovers,” he wrote.

“I want to thank everyone associated with the club for taking me in and treating me like family. Management, club staff, office, stadium workers, security, and anyone involved with the club always treated me like family and I like family.

“Thank you to the amazing fans! You stand with the team through thick and thin. I have the most amazing memories that will be with me forever, and you helped create them. You helped make some of my dreams come true.

“Thank you to my teammates for always supporting me and being there. We know the hours upon hours of work we put into it. I know this club will only continue to grow. I wish everyone continued success for the future. We will keep moving up the table.

“I am proud to have worn the crest. It was an honour to wear the green and white. For me, there is only one Dublin club. For me, Dublin will always be green and white. Thank you again for this incredible opportunity. I am a fan forever! Keep on hoopin’!”

The well-travelled goalkeeper, who was born in Israel but moved to Canada with his parents at the age of eight, enjoyed playing spells in his birth country, the US, Moldova, Finland and Sweden before his most recent venture on Irish soil.
