THE CLAREGALWAY FOOTBALLERS enjoyed a madcap weekend as they secured two massive wins in the space of 24 hours.
Paul Kilgannon’s side lifted the Galway intermediate title on Saturday, defeating Williamstown by 1-12 to 0-12 at Pearse Stadium.

The county final was delayed for a number of weeks after two separate objections by Oileáin Árann about the eligibility of one of the Williamstown players following their semi-final clash.
Last weekend the Connacht Council’s Hearings Committee threw Oileáin Árann’s appeal out, but they could have opted to appeal that decision. As late as last Thursday night, it was still unclear whether the Aran Islanders would take the case further. On Friday, they decided against another appeal, which meant the Galway IFC final could go ahead the following day.
Claregalway were forced into action the day after their county final success, and they backed it up with a 1-12 to 1-10 Connacht semi-final victory over St John’s Sligo in Markievicz Park.
They’ll face Roscommon’s Michael Glavey’s in the Connacht decider, which takes place on Sunday 19 November, giving them almost two weeks to prepare.
