The inspiring story behind that Marseille fan's goal from kick-off against Toulouse

Brilliant.

YOU MAY HAVE already seen the goal, but the story behind it is even better.

On Sunday night, Marseille super fan Kamel Zaroual was invited by the Ligue 1 side to take the ceremonial kick-off at the Stade Velodrome.

Instead of passing the ball to a Marseille player to get their fixture against Toulouse underway, he took off on a run straight for the opposition’s goal.

To roars from the crowd, he fired home past Alban Lafont.

A moment he’ll never forget, he basked in the glory and celebrated accordingly. The emotion, and how much it meant to him was clear as tears ran down his face, and a warm embrace with Marseille manager Rudi Garcia followed.

The reason Kamel was invited to take part in the kick-off was because he had traveled across France to raise money for a children’s charity. He cycled 2000km to watch his beloved club play Amiens. And did it all in a Marseille jersey.

“Marseille acknowledged his amazing charitable act by giving him a ceremonial kick-off,” says a video posted on the club’s social media accounts. ”He had strict instructions to pass to Payet and the ref reminded him.

“But Kamel had other ideas…..”

And what followed was something that he, or the club, won’t forget for a long time to come.
