Natalya Coyle in silver medal position going into World Championship final day

The Irish Olympian finished second overall in the fencing event.

IRELAND’S NATALYA COYLE has made it through to the 2017 UIPM Modern Pentathlon Senior World Championships final in Egypt.

The Olympian currently sits in second place overall, following a strong showing and an impressive second place finish in the fencing event.

Coyle, originally from Meath, finished the fencing with 25 victories and 10 defeats, pocketing a total of 250 points.

Germany’s Lena Schoeneborn — the 2008 Olympic champion — sits in the overall lead, with Japan’s Kim Sunwoo in third place.

“I made the World Championships Final!!” Coyle tweeted afterwards. “Tough run out there on the sand but delighted to be in the final #TeamIreland”

Sive Brassil was also in action for Team Ireland but just missed out on qualifying for the final, which takes place in Cairo on Sunday.
