The Real Madrid star was sent off in their 3-1 win over Barcelona last night.

CRISTIANO RONALDO HAS been given a five-match ban after pushing referee Ricardo De Burgos Bengoetxea during Real Madrid’s 3-1 win over Barcelona last night.

The attacker shoved the referee in frustration after he received a second yellow card in the game.

Ronaldo was booked for taking his shirt off while celebrating and picked up another booking for simulation after going down in the Barcelona penalty area under pressure from Samuel Umtiti.

Under Article 96 of the Spanish FA’s rule book, any player who “grabs, shakes or pushes” a referee can be suspended for between four and 12 matches.

Ronaldo will now serve a five-game ban, one for the red card he picked up last night and four for the shove on the referee.

Las Palmas striker Marko Livaja was handed a five-game ban by La Liga for a similar incident last season and that is believed to be the precedent used to decide the Real Madrid player’s punishment.
