Nathan Cleverly agrees to fight Badou Jack on McGregor v Mayweather undercard

However, his WBA world title may not be on the line.

WBA LIGHT-HEAVYWEIGHT world champion Nathan Cleverly hopes to defend his title on the undercard of the Conor McGregor v Floyd Mayweather fight.

The Welsh fighter has agreed terms to take on Swedish challenger Badou Jack — who is promoted by Mayweather — in a 26 August bout in Las Vegas.

However, the WBA ordered the 30-year-old to defend his belt against interim champion Dmitry Bivol last month, and it remains to be seen if they will sanction this bout as a world title fight.

His promoter, Eddie Hearn, is confident a deal can be done, telling the South Wales Argus:

“We agreed terms for Nathan Cleverly to defend his world title against Badou Jack on the Mayweather undercard,” said Hearn.

“The only issue we have to overcome is we’re just boxing off with Bivol, who is the mandatory in the WBA, to make sure the belt can be on the line.

“The deal is done and now we have to make sure that the fight can take place for the WBA world title.”

Cleverly won the title late last year but has not fought since.

A bout with the 21-1-2 Jack has been on the cards since the Swede stepped up from super middleweight following a draw with James DeGale in January.
