Ireland sweat on McClean scan after knee injury

The 28-year old limped out of West Brom’s friendly with Bristol Rovers at the weekend.

JAMES MCCLEAN COULD miss the start of the Premier League season after limping out of West Brom’s friendly with Bristol Rovers at the weekend.

The 28-year old came off in the 48th minute of the Baggies’ 2-1 defeat at the Memorial Stadium and manager Tony Pulis said afterwards he would send the player for a scan.

“James’s [injury] is the most concerning at the moment because it is in the knee area and we’ll get that scanned to see what that tells us,” Pulis told his club’s official website.

West Brom kick off their Premier League season against Bournemouth on 12 August while Ireland also have a World Cup qualifying double-header with Georgia and Serbia in September.
