Chelsea sign ex-Manchester City goalkeeper on a free transfer

Willy Caballero was released by Man City earlier this summer when his deal expired.

FORMER MANCHESTER CITY goalkeeper Willy Caballero has signed for Premier League champions Chelsea on a free transfer.

Caballero joins the London side after being released by City earlier this summer, along with Jesus Navas and full-backs Gael Clichy and Bacary Sagna.

The Argentine made 26 appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side across all competitions last season.

Following the announcement of the deal, 35-year-old Caballero told the Chelsea FC website:

“I am very happy to join Chelsea, the champions of England. I am looking forward to meeting the guys and helping the club achieve more success in the coming season.”

Caballero will now provide back-up for Chelsea’s number one keeper Thibaut Courtois following the transfer of Asmir Begovic to Bournemouth.
