WEXFORD’S CHAMPIONSHIP PREPARATIONS have taken a hit with the news that key defender Shaun Murphy is an injury doubt for the upcoming Leinster SHC quarter-final.
Murphy suffered a possible fractured sternum in Oulart-the-Ballagh’s 0-20 to 1-14 defeat to St Martin’s in the Wexford SHC last Friday night, Model boss Davy Fitzgerald has confirmed.
“Shaun Murphy is a major doubt for the game,” said Fitzgerald told MC Ivan Yates at a Wexford GAA event in Stillorgan on Monday night.

“He suffered a possible fractured sternum playing for his club over the weekend. He’s definitely out for a few weeks.”
Murphy has been a key competent of the Wexford revival this year, operating in the sweeper role to good effect. He gave a fine display in the league quarter-final win over Kilkenny last month and his reading of the game is a huge asset to the Wexford defence.
Wexford will face a round robin qualifier on the weekend of 27 May, before a potential showdown with Kilkenny in the provincial semi-final on 10 June.
The Wexford hurling squad have jetted off to Portugal for a warm-weather training camp this week as Fitzgerald prepares for his first championship game in charge.
“We’ll be training three times a day for the next five days,” added the Clare man. “We’re going to spend the next week and a half working really hard on our fitness.”
