Irish striker becoming a cult hero in Poland after bagging yet another match-winner

Cillian Sheridan is in flying form at league leaders Jagiellonia Bialystok.

CAVAN’S CILLIAN SHERIDAN is fast becoming a cult hero at Polish league leaders Jagiellonia Bialystok after scoring yet another vital goal in their push for a first top-tier league title.

Sheridan has made a remarkable start to his career at Jagiellonia since making the move from Cypriot outfit Omonia at the end of February, scoring five goals and registering three assists in his first eight games for the club.

The former Celtic striker claimed the match-winner in a second successive 1-0 Jagiellonia victory yesterday, his 33rd-minute strike proving the difference against Pogon Szczecin.

The 28-year-old striker has voiced his desire in recent times to earn a recall to the Ireland fold and as Jagiellonia close in on a maiden crown, Sheridan’s chances of playing Champions League football next season are increasing.

Jagiellonia are currently two points clear at the top of the Ekstraklasa table with six rounds of fixtures remaining.

Sheridan has three senior caps for the Boys in Green, the last of which coming in a friendly against Argentina in August 2010.
