IT WAS AN emotional day for UCLA’s Takkarist McKinley, who was picked in the first round of the NFL draft by the Atlanta Falcons.
McKinley was pick number 26 for the side who lost out to the New England Patriots in last season’s Super Bowl, and he marked the occasion with an impassioned speech to his deceased grandmother.
His grandmother Myrtle Collins died in 2011, and McKinley brought a picture of her on stage for his interview with Deion Sanders of the NFL Network, after he was picked.

He spoke of the promise he made to her before she died about pursuing his dream of becoming an NFL player.
During the rush of emotion however, McKinley accidentally dropped an expletive and quickly followed it up with an apology, before telling the NFL to ‘fine me later.’
“This is who I do it for man. I made a promise to her and I stuck to it. I made that promise man.
“I told her, before she passed I was gonna live my dream. I was gonna go to D-1 (Division I college), I was gonna get out of Richmond, I was gonna get out of Oakland. I was gonna go to the NFL, I made that promise to her man.
Whoops!
