Late goal at Celtic Park ends winning run as Old Firm derby finishes all square

Rangers have ended Celtic’s 17-match winning run.

A LATE RANGERS equaliser has denied runaway leaders Celtic a fourth victory of the season over their Old Firm rivals, as well as ending their record winning run.

Clint Hill was Rangers’ hero at Celtic Park, finding the back of the net with two minutes of normal time on the clock to end Celtic’s 17-match winning run.

The result comes as a boost to new manager Pedro Caixinha. The Portuguese 46-year-old agreed a three-year-deal on Saturday, and watched on from the stand as caretaker boss Graeme Murty oversaw his last fixture in charge.

Stuart Armstrong opened the scoring for Brendan Rogers’ side in the 35th minute — his 11th goal of the campaign — and it looked like it could have been their day, dominating much of the second half.

The 88th minute brought Rangers’ breakthrough though. Emerson Hyndman’s original effort was kept at bay by Celtic keeper Craig Gordon, but veteran defender Hill made no mistake with the rebound.

Referee Bobby Madden also waved away a late Celtic penalty appeal after substitute Leigh Griffiths went down under the challenge of the goalscorer.

Celtic’s second draw in 28 league games takes them 25 points clear of Aberdeen, while Rangers remain in 3rd place, 33 points behind their city rivals.

Rangers become the first side to deny Celtic victory since Manchester City in their Champions League clash in December.
