Ex-Tottenham youngster and homegrown hero joins Waterford FC, scores on debut

Kenny McEvoy spent five years on the books at Spurs.

FORMER TOTTENHAM YOUNGSTER Kenny McEvoy has signed for Waterford FC.

McEvoy got his first taste of action with the southern side this eveing, in a friendly against Tramore AFC, which Waterford FC won 4-0.

McEvoy was sprung from the bench in the second half, and helped himself to a goal late on in the tie.

The club confirmed the new signing of their local player on their social media pages earlier in the evening.

The former Ireland U21 international joined York City last year on a permanent basis, following a period of frustration at Tottenham.

McEvoy had been on the books at Spurs since 2011, but failed to earn a first-team appearance. The winger did get some game time while on loan with Peterborough United, Colchester United, Stevenage and York.

According to the Irish Mirror, Galway United and Sligo Rovers were also interested in securing McEvoy’s signature.

The winger reportedly trained with Galway earlier this month but has since linked up with his local club.

The 22-year-old has previously drawn comparisons with Welsh star Gareth Bale, due to their similar facial features.

– An earlier version of this article referred to Waterford United, Waterford FC’s previous name.
