Dunne continues impressive form in Abu Dhabi as he sits two shots off the lead

The Wicklow man hit a round of 66.

PAUL DUNNE CONTINUED his impressive form on the second day of the Abu Dhabi HSBC Championship, as he shot an inspiring round of 66 to finish just two shots off leader Martin Kaymer.

German native Kaymer sits on 12 under, while the 24-year-old Wicklow man stays in contention in joint third position.

He started four shots off the overnight lead, and went on to pick up four shots on his first nine, including an eagle.

The only blot in his copybook would be considered a bogey on hole 12, as he finished with a six-under-par round.

Rafael Cabrera is in second place on 11 under, while Dunne sits alongside Tommy Fleetwood and Kiradech Aphibarnrat in third.

“I gave myself a lot of chances, took a few and missed a few,” he told Sky Sports.

“My game is in good shape, I hit a lot of good iron shots. I’m happy with the last couple of days. Hopefully I can do the same the next two days.

“Yeah, it would be great [to continue like this]. It’s nice to be up there again. That’s why we practice and that’s what we prepare for.

“It’s going to be nice to be on one of the later groups tomorrow.

“Hopefully I can play like I did the last couple of over the weekend and I think I have a good chance.”

Meanwhile, Darren Clarke had another difficult day as he slipped to 121st place alongside Danny Willett.
