GORDON ELLIOTT WON six of the seven races on offer on Troytown Chase day at Navan yesterday to extend his lead over Willie Mullins in the race to become this season’s Irish champion National Hunt trainer.
Elliott brought 25 horses to the Meath venue as he claimed the feature for the third year in a row with the impressive Empire of Dirt.
His other winners were Brelade, Death Duty, Bull Ride, Jury Duty and Threeswallowsnick for an incredible 41,276-1 six-timer.
Elliott’s haul moves him to 108 winners for the season, 34 ahead of Mullins (74), but it is the Carlow man who leads the way in the betting as 1/3 favourite to win the trainer’s title with just under six months remaining.
