Throughout his career, Finlay also picked up three National Football League titles and made 168 appearances in a Monaghan shirt in which he thrived as both a midfielder and a forward.
Paul Finlay retires as Monaghan's top senior scorer, with 5-544 in 168 games since 2003. He was top co. scorer in 5 years; 2nd in another 6.
Finlay also captained his club Ballybay to Monaghan SFC glory in 2012 and also won a Sigerson Cup with Sligo IT in 2002. His departure from the inter-county scene comes shortly after fellow stalwart Dick Clerkin also called time on his inter-county retirement.
Speaking to the Irish Independent about his decision, Finlay said:
“I’m comfortable with the decision. I’ve been thinking of it for a while. I know it’s the right time.”

SEASONED MONAGHAN footballer Paul Finlay has announced his retirement from inter-county football after a 14-year stint.
