There are no fewer than six Irish teams/athletes taking part on day one with Jason Smyth getting his defence of the T13 100m title underway at 11.34pm.

Ailbhe Kelly will be the first Irish athlete in action when she takes part in the S8 400m freestyle heats at 2pm followed closely by James Scully in the S5 200m freestyle at 3.35pm.
The first non-pool action from an Irish perspective sees Damien Vereker and his pilot Sean Hahessy in the Individual B Pursuit Qualifiers at 3.57pm with Sean Baldwin‘s R1 Shooting 10m Rifle Standing Qualifiers under way at 4pm.
Elsewhere,Ireland take on Ukraine in the football at 6pm.

Brazil could win the first medal up for grabs in the men’s 5,000m T11 final at 2pm in the shape of Odair Santos. He led the 2015 World Championship final by a distance but collapsed with exhaustion on the last lap and missed out on a medal as his guide tried in vain to get him back on his feet.
American swimmer Jessica Long already has 12 Paralympic golds to her name and is bidding for a fourth consecutive win in the S8 400m freestyle at 9.55pm.
Team GB’s Ollie Hynd, Bethany Firth and Jon Fox are also in action on the opening day of action in the swimming.
Dutch swimmer Chantalle Zijderveld could become the first Paralympic champion born in the 21st century if she takes the 100m SB9 breaststroke gold at 10.13pm.Zijderveld is already the European and world champion in the event.
