Former Bayer Leverkusen coach Sascha Lewandowski dies aged 44

The German stepped away from coaching in March on medical advice.

SASCHA LEWANDOWSKI, THE Former Bayern Leverkusen coach has died at the age of 44.

Lewandowski was appointed joint head coach of Leverkusen in April 2012 alongside Sami Hyypia but returned to the youth set-up at the end of the season.

He took the manager’s job at Union Berlin in September 2015 but stepped down in March this year on the back of medical advice in relation to acute fatigue syndrome.

Club president Dirk Zingler said:

We are deeply shocked and incredibly sad. Our sincere condolences to the family.”
