The defending Super Bowl champions are already in big trouble next season

The Broncos have only one quarterback left on their roster.

YOU MAY NOT know who Trevor Siemian is, but that’s because this is the only piece of action he has seen in his fledgling NFL career.

The 24-year-old was the 250th selection of the 2015 NFL Draft when the Denver Broncos plucked him out of Northwestern in the seventh round.

And as of today, he’s the defending Super Bowl Champions’ only quarterback after Brock Osweiler — the 25-year-old back-up the Broncos have groomed to be Peyton Manning’s successor — decided to sign a monster $72 million, four-year deal with the Houston Texans.

Osweiler had turned down a four-year $64m deal with the Broncos and reportedly cut off all communication with the team, including team-mates, two weeks ago after feeling slighted that the team benched him in favour of Peyton Manning during Week 17.

It is very unlikely Siemian will be the Broncos’ starting quarterback when the season starts and recently released Washington QB Robert Griffin III, Colin Kaepernick and Ryan Fitzpatrick are among those rumoured to be heading to Mile High.

While, Osweiler’s deal was big, it wasn’t the largest of the opening day of free agency with the New York Giants handing out nearly $200m worth of contracts to Olivier Vernon, Janoris Jenkins and Damon Harrison as well as bringing back Jason Pierre-Paul on a one-year deal.

Former Dolphin defensive end Vernon was the big winner as he’s set to earn $85m over five years with $52.5m in guarantees.

Other notable signings include offensive tackle/guard Kelechi Osemele and Super Bowl winner Bruce Irvin joining the Raiders, Chris Ivory and Malik Watson joining the Jaguars and Matt Forte, the best available running back in free agency, becoming a New York Jet.
