6-1 down with 30 minutes to play... Australian team wins 8-6

Gold Coast City are the very definition of ‘never give up’.

EVEN A ROY of the Rovers fan would find it hard to believe this comeback story.

Gold Coast City of the National Premier League in Australia found themselves 6-1 down with 27 minutes to play during a pre-season friendly with Holland Park Hawks.

At that stage, coach Grae Piddick decided to bring on a few subs to make the scoreline a bit more respectable.

He could hardly have believed what happened next, however, as his team scored the five goals they needed to bring the game to extra-time before bagging another two to, remarkably, win 8-6.

“I rotated the side a fair bit to start with and we conceded some sloppy goals,” Piddick told the Gold Coast Bulletin before adding, in what might be the understatement of the year, that is was a “crazy game”.
