A father and son could play alongside each other in the Pro12 Friday night

Regan King could be joined by his son as Scarlets take on Dragons.

IF 18-YEAR old winger Jacob Cowley comes off the bench to play for the Scarlets against the Dragons tomorrow, he could create history as part of the first father-son combination to play alongside each other in the Guinness Pro12.

Veteran centre King joined the Scarlets in 2005 but left for a three-year spell with Clermont before returning to the Welsh outfit in 2014.

His son Cowley signed a three-year academy contract with the Scarlets this season having previously played with Hamilton Boys School in Waikato.

He can, like his father, play centre but is primarily used on the wing.

Examples of father/son sporting combos are rare enough at top level sport but it’s not unheard of.

Ken Griffey Jr. and Senior played together in 1990 for the Seattle Mariners and once hit back-to-back home runs in a game.

There are a number of examples in cricket and club gaa while former Chelsea striker Eidur Gudjohnsen once replaced his father Arnor in Iceland’s international against Estonia in 1996.

Technically though, they didn’t play alongside each other.
