THE FIJI FLANKER Dominiko Waqaniburotu was today suspended for one week after admitting an “act of foul play” during the opening Rugby World Cup match against England.
Waqaniburotu — who was not punished by the referee at the time following consultation with the Television Match Official — was cited by Citing Commissioner Douglas Hunter under Law 10.4(j) for a “dangerous tip tackle” on England winger Jonny May.

Judicial Officer Professor Lorne Crerar reviewed the television footage of the incident and deemed it to be “low-end” which usually results in a two-week ban.
However, after taking into account Waqaniburotu’s admission and remorse, he will now miss just the match against Australia on Wednesday, 23 September, returning to action against Wales on 1 October.
Waqaniburotu has 48-hours to appeal with many pundits tweeting their surprise at the suspension.
