F1 youngster to sit driving test after finishing fourth at Hungarian GP

Max Verstappen will use the break to get his road driving licence.

17-YEAR OLD MAX Verstappen may not be old enough to take to the roads unaccompanied in the country he lives in, but he still finished in fourth place in the Hungarian Grand Prix on Sunday.

And now that Formula One is taking a four week break, the Toro Rosso driver — son of former Benetton and Honda driver Jos — will use his time off to practise for his driving test.

Verstappen, who turns 18 in September, told reporters he’s going to make the most of his time off after just missing out on a podium position yesterday:

“I’m doing my lessons in the summer break and then will take my test around my birthday in September,” Verstappen added.

“With the F1 schedule it has been difficult to fit everything in so I’ve had to wait for the break. You need a minimum six or seven hours driving under the laws in Belgium where I live – and I hope that’s all I need. We’ll see.”
