Shamrock Rovers won't comment on reports Damien Duff has signed for the club

The former Ireland international has expressed a desire to finish his career in the League of Ireland.

SHAMROCK ROVERS HAVE refused to comment on reports the club is about to sign former Ireland international Damien Duff.

Rumours began circulating on social media yesterday that the 100-times capped midfielder was set to sign for the Tallaght-based club but, when contacted by The42 a spokesperson said they could not comment.

This morning, however, several media outlets are reporting that Duff has or is poised to sign for the club.

Rovers are due to host a pre-arranged press conference at Tallaght Stadium at noon today ahead of the second leg of their Europa League first-round tie with Progrès Niederkorn and manager Pat Fenlon is expected to field questions about Duff’s potential arrival.

After last week’s scoreless draw against the Luxembourg club, a win for Rovers on Tuesday is expected to be worth in excess of €400,000 which would go some way towards paying Duff’s reported €2,500 per week wages.

The two-time Premier League winner has been without a club since a serious ankle injury ended his stint in Australia’s A-League in February and has been spotted at a number of Airtricity League games over the past few weeks as he completes his Uefa B coaching licence course.
