AS IPSWICH BEAT Cardiff 3-1 last night to keep their Premier League promotion hopes alive, two of English football’s hottest strikers went head to head. And they are both Irish.
When Cardiff’s Eoin Doyle nodded home to equalise in the first half, he took his personal tally of league goals this season to 23.
The 27-year old, who scored 21 of those goals for Chesterfield in League One — a streak that earned him a move to Cardiff in January — has struggled for opportunities since moving to the Championship but now has two goals in his last five games as he begins to find his feet with his new club.
Such were Doyle’s early season heroics, he remains the second highest scorer in English league football, second only to Daryl Murphy who found the net for Ipswich for the 24th time in the Championship this season.

Murphy’s latest ensured all three points for Mick McCarthy’s side and, coupled with the fact both Wolves and Brentford lost, means Ipswich are now three points clear of the aforementioned duo in sixth-spot.
