Ireland trim their squad for Poland and one promising player misses out through injury

Jeff Hendrick won’t be fit to face Poland next Sunday.

WE ARE ONE week away from Ireland’s crucial Euro 2016 qualifier against Poland at the Aviva Stadium and Martin O’Neill has named his 29-man squad for the game.

O’Neill named a provisional squad last week of 35, but Paul Green, Simon Cox and Rob Elliot have all been omitted from the reduced group.

Also, David McGoldrick, Anthony Pilkington and Jeff Hendrick all miss out through injury.

The absence of Derby County’s Hendrick is a particularly bad blow as he has performed well in the campaign so far, assisting on John O’Shea’s famous equaliser against Germany.

Here is the full squad.

Goalkeepers

David Forde, Shay Given, Keiren Westwood, Darren Randolph.

Defenders

Richard Keogh, Marc Wilson, Seamus Coleman, Cyrus Christie, John O’Shea, Alex Pearce, Paul McShane, Ciaran Clark, Stephen Ward.

Midfielders

James McCarthy, Harry Arter, Glenn Whelan, Darron Gibson, Aiden McGeady, James McClean, Wes Hoolahan, Robbie Brady, Stephen Quinn, David Meyler.

Strikers

Robbie Keane, Shane Long, Daryl Murphy, Jon Walters, Kevin Doyle, Anthony Stokes.

Ireland take on Poland on Sunday 29 March at the Aviva Stadium.
