MANY THOUGHT ANDERSON Silva’s MMA career was over when he broke his leg against Chris Weidman in December 2013 but the legendary Brazilian returned from a 13 month lay-off to earn a unanimous decision win against Nick Diaz last night.
Silva’s loss 13 months ago was his second defeat to Weidman in 2013 and many thought The Spider would call it a day afterwards but he showed that despite his advanced age – he is almost 40 – he can still compete in the UFC.
Despite Diaz’s attempts to goad Silva early on, the middleweight completely controlled proceedings, winning 49-46 on one card and 50-45 on two.
Silva was visibly emotional when the scores were announced and after thanking God and his family, he indicated that beating Diaz might be the perfect way to cap his illustrious career.
