Can Roche win the Puskas Award on 12 January? Morgan Treacy/INPHO

Steph Roche's spectacular goal might be even more loved in the UK than in Ireland

Only a World Cup bite deprived Roche of being BBC Sport’s most viewed video.

WITHOUT HAVING A calculator to hand, it is impossible to know how many times Steph Roche’s wonder-goal has been viewed – but it has to be at about 1 trillion now, doesn’t it?

Roche’s strike is up against Robin van Persie’s header and James Rodriguez’a volley for the Puskas Award, FIFA’s goal of the year competition.

It is up to the public to vote for the winner on 12 January and this BBC Sport announcement of their top stories of the year should give Roche some confidence.

Roche’s exceptional bit of skill was the most viewed goal on their site in 2014 and the second most watched clip, after Luis Suarez’s bite in the World Cup against Italy.

This goal has turned into Gangnam Style at this stage – almost every day it hits another milestone or breaks another online record.

And for good measure, here is the screamer once again.
