However, after the game, her manager Francie Friel revealed his captain was playing through the pain barrier and has done so all season.
Despite this, McLaughlin scored 25-35 in seven championship games, a statistic that does not surprise Friel in the slightest.

“I sat down at the start of the year and made Geraldine captain,” Friel said.
“I said to her: ‘You’re going to win an All-Ireland and you’re going to captain us to an All-Ireland.’
“I said that she’d be the top player in Ireland by the time we’d be finished.
“I see her three or four times a week in training and I can see that she’s taken her game to a new level. It’s just scary.
“She is playing with the cartilage gone in her knee. She has only one knee and needs an operation.
“We kept that quiet. She had an operation in May and the knee went again so she’s due for another operation. That shows you the cut of her – she never complains.
“I want to thank the doctor in Gweedore, Dr Delap, who sorted her out with an injection. It worked miracles. Without that injection she wouldn’t be able to play.”
