A Feyenoord player fulfilled Rory Delap's lifelong dream* last night

*Might not actually be his lifelong dream.

EVER SINCE HE was a little boy, Rory Delap (possibly) dreamed of one day taking a throw in so powerful that it would fly into the roof of the net. Throughout his career he has consistently gone close to achieving this feat, despite the fact that it is illegal to score straight from a throw in.

Or is it? This goal was apparently scored by Feynoord’s Sven van Beek but this replay makes it look awfully like Miquel Nelom throws it all the way to the net.

Delap probably feels like Robert Falcon Scott did when he finally reached the South Pole only to find that Roald Amundsen had already beaten him to the achievement.

Chin up, Rory. You will always have these howitzers.
