IT WASN’T A good day for the O’Connell family, as Paul’s Munster side were heavily beaten in Gloucester and his cousin Eoghan scored at the wrong end in Celtic’s 1-0 defeat to Inverness Caledonian Thistle.
Inverness took the lead in front of their home fans 20 minutes into the second half, when Marley Watkins’ shot was parried by Celtic keeper Lukasz Zaluska into O’Connell, who knocked it into his own net.
The closest Celtic came to scoring was when Nir Biton smashed the ball against the bar in the first half but after they conceded, Inverness had chances to double their lead, with substitute Nick Ross going closest.
It was Inverness’ first home win over Celtic since 2011 and the result means that Ronny Deila’s side are four points behind Caley Thistle, who are top, albeit having played a game less.
