Wenger responded to Pardew’s reported comments by saying he respects Newcastle before turning on a journalist for assuming Cabaye was a target.
He said, “There is nothing to explain… First of all, you don’t know what we did. You don’t know if we did bid and you come to these conclusion without knowing what we did. It is quite amazing that all these people don’t know but they have all these opinions about things they don’t know.”
When asked to clarify if a bid for Cabaye was being considered, Wenger snapped, “No. I do not explain to you what happened. It is not down to me to explain every single thing I do. It’s impossible.
“If we sign a player, we will announce it to you. We always have informed you. For all the rest, you have to leave us a little bit [of space] to do our own things].”
He added, “We do not want to hurt anybody. Not Newcastle, nor anybody else. You can not reproach us on one side for not buying and reproach us on the other side for trying to buy.”
