'It's time to say goodbye' - Arsenal fans unfurl banner pleading with Wenger to quit

The away supporters expressed their displeasure after the FA Cup replay tonight.

ARSENAL SUPPORTERS WERE seen holding a banner asking Arsene Wenger to quit as manager as they watched their side defeat Hull City 4-0 in the FA Cup on Tuesday.

Prior to their cup victory the Gunners endured a poor run of results, drawing with the Tigers at the Emirates and losing to Barcelona, Manchester United and Swansea in quick succession.

Their 2-2 north London derby draw with Tottenham at the weekend also left them eight points behind Premier League leaders Leicester City with nine games of the season remaining.

Speaking after the match, Ian Wright expressed his frustration at seeing the message from the Gunners fans, which was also unfurled during the Gunners’ 1-0 win at West Brom last season.

He told BT Sport: “It’s very disappointing. If I was a player and went over and saw that… yeah we’ve had a couple of bad results against Man Utd and Swansea but it’s not over by any stretch of the imagination in the league.

“With a bit more confidence the boys will get going again. Really disappointing to see that. I can understand the frustration in a season where we’re looking at Leicester top of the league, Chelsea not winning, Man City getting themselves going again.

“Of course they want to win it. If it was that easy they would do it. The fact is Wenger’s doing the best he can. Sometimes they have to look at the players and the way the players have performed. They can’t keep caning the manager like that. To see that sign is just annoying.”

Phil Brown added: “That’s sad, that [the banner]. Twenty years of fantastic service this fella’s given Arsenal football club. He’s turned it from what it was to what it is. It was a great football club then, it’s a fabulous football club now. Arsene’s done brilliantly for the club.”

Arsenal face Watford in the FA Cup quarter-final this weekend.
