Arsenal get a tough workout in their first pre-season game against Boreham Wood

Only a handful of the Gunners’ more high-profile players were on show against the Conference South side.

ARSENAL WERE FORCED TO WAIT but they got the job done eventually.

Facing lowly Boreham Wood in their first pre-season game, they took the lead after 68 minutes through substitute Kris Olsson before another replacement, Benik Afobe, won and scored a penalty four minutes from time.

Though awaiting the return of many players from the World Cup, Arsenal could still rely on a few big names and the likes of Szczesny, Monreal and Ramsey all featured from the start while Gibbs, Rosicky, Flamini and Diaby were introduced at the break.

The Gunners changed their entire line-up at the interval and it certainly sparked a better showing.

A lovely through-ball from Rosicky played in Olsson with just over twenty minutes left and he supplied a delicate finish.

Late on, Abofe was pushed over in the area and he stepped up himself to confidently stroke up the resultant penalty.

Next up for Arsenal is a trip to the US where they’ll take on Thierry Henry’s New York Red Bulls.
