Argentina slapped with €250,000 fine for snubbing World Cup press conferences

FIFA’s stock of Swiss Francs must be running low.

ARGENTINA MAY HAVE reached their first World Cup final in 24 years but their governing body must shell out €250,000 to FIFA after breaching the footballing organisation’s media guidelines.

Alejandro Sabella’s side were reprimanded by FIFA for failing to present players to the media ahead of games against Nigeria, Switzerland and Germany. Sabella faced the media each time but, according to the tournament rules, he should have been joined by a player from his squad.

FIFA warned Argentina about the responsibility to ‘media and, ultimately fans’ but imposed the 300k [Swiss Franc] fine after Sabella alone was present for a press briefing the day before the semi-final against Holland.

Argentina striker Sergio Aguero, meanwhile, has warned his teammates that Germany are capable of scoring another hat-ful of goals, as they did to hosts Brazil in the semi-finals. “We can’t allow Germany any space because they will kill you if you give them space.”
