Higuain puts Argentina ahead but everyone is raving about THAT Messi pass

The 11-month wait is over for Gonzalo Higuain.

ARGENTINA FORWARD GONZALO HIGUAIN ended his 11-month international goal drought this evening by snapping his country into a 1-0 lead.

The Napoli striker fired home a low drive from just inside the Belgian box to edge his team ahead in their World Cup quarter final match. Angel di Maria teed Higuain up and, in a rare occurrence in this tournament, Lionel Messi was merely a supporting player in the move.

The Barca maestro did find di Maria, who had drifted in from the right wing, but all of the plaudits will go to Higuain for his crisp finish.

Messi, who came close with a first-half free from the edge of the box, was not out of the game for too long as he threaded through a wonder-pass to set up di Maria for a shot that Vincent Kompany did well to block.

As soon as the ball left Messi’s left boot, Twitter exploded in a gush of praise and succulent superlatives.
