Antrim stand by Dawson and Ryan despite disappointing seasons

The Antrim County Board ratified managers Frank Dawson and Kevin Ryan at a meeting last night.

FRANK DAWSON AND Kevin Ryan will remain on as managers of the Antrim senior football and hurling teams.

Dawson and Ryan were ratified by a meeting of the Saffrons County Board last night with the news confirmed via a short statement on Twitter.

Dawson, who replaced Liam Bradley last October, was under pressure after Antrim were relegated to Division 4 and then lost both of their Championship matches against Monaghan and Louth.

But the Belfast native has been re-appointed despite reports that he faced considerable opposition at last night’s meeting.

Ryan’s first league campaign as hurling manager ended with just one win but Antrim rallied to beat Carlow in the relegation play-off and secure their Division 1B status.

They then got off to a winning start against Westmeath in the preliminary round of the Leinster Championships but defeats against Laois and then Wexford ended their summer in June.

I guess that rules out a Mt Sion man being in charge of Waterford’s hurlers in 2013. Good luck to Kevin in Antrim & I hope ye can make a breakthrough.
