IRELAND STRIKER ANTHONY STOKES has signed a new three-year deal with Celtic.
The 25-year old impressed during the early stages of this year’s campaign, finding the net four times in four games between August and September, and though the goals have dried up since — just one in his last nine games — the club have seen enough to reward him with a new deal.
The club announced the contract extension, which will keep him at the club until 2016, via Twitter:
Stokes, who came through the ranks at Arsenal, also spent time at Falkirk, Sunderland, Sheffield United and Crystal palace before joining Celtic from Hibernian in 2010.
Speaking on the club’s website, Stokes said:
“I’m absolutely delighted and I’m just looking forward to the next few seasons. I’m just glad to get it out of the way and I can concentrate on my football.
“I knew this was going to be a big season for me because I knew I had to come back after missing the majority of last season and I needed to come back strong and thankfully I’ve started the season reasonably well.”
Despite injury and off-the-field incidents, Stokes has scored 52 goals in his 121 appearances for Celtic and was recently recalled to the Ireland squad.
