Pilkington doesn't travel as Ireland squad meets up in Dublin

The Norwich winger is an injury doubt for Friday’s friendly with Latvia.

ANTHONY PILKINGTON HAS emerged as a doubt for Ireland’s friendly game with Latvia.

Ahead of Martin O’Neill’s first match in charge on Friday, 24 players arrived in Dublin tonight to meet the new management team with training in Malahide scheduled for tomorrow morning.

The Norwich City winger, who made his senior debut in the defeat to Sweden in September, came off with a dead leg after 33 minutes of the Canaries’ win over West Ham on Saturday.

And in a statement released tonight, the FAI announced that the 25-year-old will remain at his club and be assessed on Thursday before travelling.

If he doesn’t recover in time, it will be the sixth time that Pilkington has pulled out of an Ireland squad since earning his first call-up in January.

Ireland take on Latvia at the Aviva Stadium on Friday before travelling to Poznan to take on Poland four days later.
