SLIGO ROVERS STRIKER Anthony Elding was named today as the Airtricity/Soccer Writers’ Association Player of the Month for March.
Elding set the Airtricity League alight in his first month since joining from Grimsby Town, scoring six goals in six league games for the champions — and nine goals in eight appearances overall.
“I’m over the moon with the award,” Elding, 30, said today. “As a striker, you want to score a few goals and have an impact on games, but I didn’t think it would go this well so early on.”
The Englishman topped the voting ahead of Rory Patterson whose five league goals have helped fire Derry City into second place, five points behind Sligo.
