DERRY CITY HAVE announced the signing of English striker Anthony Elding.
The 32-year-old frontman has agreed a short term contract until the end of July with the option of extending the deal.
Elding arrived in the League of Ireland in 2013 when he joined Sligo Rovers and proved an instant hit — scoring 19 goals in his one season with the Bit O’Red including the winner in the FAI Cup final.

However, he was moved on to Cork City the following year and made a handful of appearances before departing last May.
Having most recently spent time in the IFA Premiership with Ballinamallard United, Elding will be hoping to impress Candystripes boss Peter Hutton, who is looking to replace Rory Patterson.
“I’m over the moon to have signed,” Elding said. “Things went pretty quickly, but once I’d known there was interest from Derry City it was a no brainer. I know the league well from being at Cork City and Sligo Rovers and it’ll be great to get back to full time football again.
Every footballer aspires to be full time and I’m no different. I know there’ll be pressure, but it’s positive pressure and if we hit the ground running it’ll get us prepared to push on and push for Europe this season again.”
“We were looking for a striker with a bit of experience,” added Hutton.
“We have a lot of younger players that will learn off him, and as well as that it gives us something different up front to work with and a bit more of a physical presence which is great to have as an option.”
