Anfield Cat back on the streets after escaping from foster home

It’s the latest twist in the ongoing saga of the most famous cat in Britain…

THE HOMELESS CAT who gained worldwide notoriety when he ran onto the field during a Liverpool – Spurs game earlier this month has escaped from the foster home he had been staying in.

The tabby, who became known as the ‘ Anfield Cat’ and later ‘Shankly’, made headlines when he bounded onto the field 11 minutes into the Premier League game earlier this month.

It subsequently emerged that he was a homeless cat who had been wandering the streets around the Anfield ground for week previously and had been nicknamed ‘Kenny‘ after Reds boss Kenny Dalglish.

He was taken into a rescue centre in the Liverpool suburb of Formby where he has been receiving treatment and was renamed ‘Shankly’ after legendary Reds boss Bill Shankly.

However he has now escaped from his new foster home in the seaside town of Crosby, according to local reports. The Formby Times says that ‘Shanks’ somewhow managed to escape through a sealed cap flap at the home in which he had been staying.

“We believe it likely that Shanks’ homing instincts will lead him in the direction of Anfield and we would urge residents in the area to keep an eye out for him around his old stomping ground,” Helen Stanbury from Freshfields Animal Rescue Centre told local radio station Juice FM.

She went on to say: “The important thing from our point of view is that he’s not neutered and because of the scabs on his neck, he wasn’t micro chipped either so you know at the moment he’s probably going to be out there impregnating more cats.”

The cat also has a parody Twitter account, @AnfieldCat, which now has over 60,000 followers.

The account tweeted earlier this week:  ”I can confirm, I have escaped from alCATraz and have started my pilgrimage to Wembley,” referring to Liverpool’s Carling Cup Final date with Cardiff at Wembley this Sunday.

Part of Brogan’s problem is that he seems to play an extremely unselfish role by staying close to the endline all game long. It occupies defenders and frees up space for other forwards but it means that he operates with a very limited amount of space – trapped between a defender and the endline. It’s frustrating to watch and must be frustrating for him but if it’s to the benefit of the team, can hardly complain.

Paul Flynn is a man that really needs to show form. Don’t see how his place can be justified after his anonymity last year.
