Andy Lee says world title defence 'has to be in Ireland'

The Limerick man is hoping to bring a world title bout to his home city.

JUST HOURS AFTER he became the new WBO middleweight champion of the world, Andy Lee is already thinking about his first title defence and, for the Limerick native, there’s no place like home.

The 30-year old must face Billy Joe Saunders – who became the mandatory challenger after beating Chris Eubank Jr last time out – in his first defence and, asked by iFL TV where that fight might take place, Lee said the answer was obvious:

“It’s got to be in Ireland. It’s the biggest place, the biggest sell and the biggest possible arena for it.

“I’m the champ, I’m not going anywhere outside of Ireland. He can come to me if he wants to fight me.”
