OUR WRITERS HAVE been gazing into their crystal balls ahead of the announcement tomorrow morning of the 2014 GAA-GPA Allstar football team.

You can find the full list of nominations here and some of our writers have selected their sides before the announcement.

Let us know in the comments section, what you think the team should be:

STEVEN O’ROURKE

1. Paul Durcan (Donegal)

2. Paul Murphy (Kerry)
3. Neil McGee (Donegal)
4. Keith Higgins (Mayo)

5. Colm Boyle (Mayo)
6. Peter Crowley (Kerry)
7. Frank McGlynn (Donegal)

8. David Moran (Kerry)
9. Neil Gallagher (Donegal)

10. Paul Flynn (Dublin)
11. Diarmuid Connolly (Dublin)
12. Michael Murphy (Donegal)

13. James O’Donoghue (Kerry)
14. Kieran Donaghy (Kerry)
15. Patrick McBrearty (Donegal)

“I realise that Donaghy probably doesn’t have enough minutes under his belt to actually win an Allstar but the simple fact is that, without his cameo in the first semi-final and subsequent performances, Kerry would not be All-Ireland champions. Durcan is forgiven for his All-Ireland final error too.”

SINEAD O’CARROLL

1. Paul Durcan (Donegal)

2. Paul Murphy (Kerry)
3. Neil McGee (Donegal)
4. Keith Higgins (Mayo)

5. Aidan O’Mahony (Kerry)
6. Peter Crowley (Kerry)
7. Colm Boyle (Mayo)

8. Neil Gallagher (Donegal)
9. David Moran (Kerry)

10. Ryan McHugh (Donegal)
11. Paul Flynn (Dublin)
12. Diarmuid Connolly (Dublin)

13. James O’Donoghue (Kerry)
14. Kieran Donaghy (Kerry)
15. Cillian O’Connor (Mayo)

“Paul Durcan should get the nod despite final mistake while full-back and half-back lines, and midfield are straightforward selections. In the half-forward line, Paul Flynn and Diarmuid Connolly  make it for 20 minutes of the best football all year against Donegal and Ryan McHugh for his moments of magic. I do feel weird about leaving out Michael Murphy though. Kieran Donaghy may have only played a couple of games but he change the outcome of the whole championship.”

NIALL KELLY

1. Paul Durcan (Donegal)

2. Paul Murphy (Kerry)
3. Neil McGee (Donegal)
4. Keith Higgins (Mayo)

5. Aidan O’Mahony (Kerry)
6. Peter Crowley (Kerry)
7. Colm Boyle (Mayo)

8. David Moran (Kerry)
9. Neil Gallagher (Donegal)

10. Paul Flynn (Dublin)
11. Diarmuid Connolly (Dublin)
12. Michael Murphy (Donegal)

13. James O’Donoghue (Kerry)
14. Cillian O’Connor (Mayo)
15. Kieran Donaghy (Kerry)

“Six for Kerry, four for Donegal, three for Mayo and two for the Dubs. These are relatively safe picks across the board but there are always one or two slight shocks; Flynn and Donaghy are probably most at risk, and someone like Young Footballer of the Year nominee Ryan McHugh or Cork’s Brian Hurley might sneak in.”

KEVIN O’BRIEN

1. Paul Durcan (Donegal)

2. Paul Murphy (Kerry)
3. Neil McGee (Donegal)
4. Keith Higgins (Mayo)

5. Aidan O’Mahony (Kerry)
6. Peter Crowley (Kerry)
7. Colm Boyle (Mayo)

8. David Moran (Kerry)
9. Neil Gallagher (Donegal)

10. Diarmuid Connolly (Dublin)
11. Michael Murphy (Donegal)
12. Ryan McHugh (Donegal)

13. James O’Donoghue (Kerry)
14. Kieran Donaghy (Kerry)
15. Cillian O’Connor (Mayo)

“Most of the team picks itself, with Ryan McHugh getting the nod ahead of Paul Flynn because of his man-of-the-match displays in the Ulster final and All-Ireland semi-final. Kieran Donaghy is rewarded with his big performances when it mattered most.”
