THE LIMERICK COUNTY BOARD have once again looked to Cork to solve their managerial woes, earmarking All-Ireland winning boss John Allen as the ideal man to succeed Donal O’Grady.
Allen’s appointment is expected to be finalised early next week, making him the third successive Rebel to take charge of the Treatymen following in the footsteps of O’Grady and Justin McCarthy.
The St. Finbarr’s man was singled out from an impressive panel of candidates, believed to include former inter-county star Ciarán Carey and senior backroom figures TJ Ryan and Pat Heffernan.
Allen’s only spell in senior inter-county management came between 2004 and 2006 when he also succeeded O’Grady at the helm in Cork before leading the Rebels to All-Ireland glory in 2005.
