Ireland hat-trick hero Alison Miller talks us through her 3 tries against England

The Irish winger was in devastating form at the weekend as her team beat England for the first time.

IRELAND WOMEN’S TEAM defeated England for the first time in their history on Saturday at Ashbourne RFC.

The 25-0 win over the reigning champions featured a hat-trick of tries from Irish winger Alison Miller.

The victory sets the side up nicely for a championship tilt, with France due in County Meath next month after Ireland play the Scotland.

The former women’s Gaelic footballer from Laois took time out of his P.E and History studies at University College Cork to talk TheScore.ie through each of her three scores.

Try one

Our fullback Niamh Briggs took a pass from Lynne Cantwell and passed to me out on the left wing. I broke a tackle or two and stepped inside before scoring.

Try two

I came around, and in off my wing, and took a pass off Lynne Cantwell. I evaded one or two English players to get over in the righthand corner.

Try three

Larissa Muldoon and Lynne were involved again. Nora Stapleton got her hands on the ball and took it into contact. She did a great job in offloading it to me in contact; all I had to do was touch it down.

Miller added, “The tries I finished off were from great plays that came from the momentum we got from the forwards. They did a great job and we took advantage of the space.

“The congratulations should go to the whole team because it took a real effort from all involved to get the win.”
