Arsenal's €53 million man Lacazette: I turned down PSG for London

Alexandre Lacazette said he had talks with Paris Saint-Germain but the 26-year-old wanted Arsenal.

ARSENAL FORWARD ALEXANDRE Lacazette revealed he held talks with French giants Paris Saint-Germain before opting to move to the Premier League.

Lacazette, who the Gunners signed from Lyon for an initial fee of €53 million in the summer, became the club’s most expensive signing.

The 26-year-old France international, who has scored four goals in seven Premier League appearances, said he could have remained in his homeland with PSG.

“We talked to PSG but I knew it was not where I wanted to go. In France, I would only play for Lyon,” Lacazette told RMC Sport.

“PSG could have helped me progress because of the big players they have but I wanted to play in another league.”

It has been a difficult start to the season for Arsenal, though Arsene Wenger’s men are seven matches unbeaten in all competitions since their 4-0 rout at Liverpool.

Arsenal are fifth in the Premier League, six points adrift of leaders Manchester City, while the Londoners have won their opening two Europa League fixtures.

“I believe in the title, whether in the Premier League or in the Europa League,” Lacazette added.

“We have a big group, everyone gets along, it’s not always the best that wins.”

Toulon are a shadow of themselves this season. . Chickens coming home to roost it would seem. . Hopefully the same happens at Saracens soon but this year I feel they are head and shoulders above the rest and likely wont be stopped from retaining the BT cup.

Fair play to Peter Stringer for playing the match , a true gentleman and professional. However it was a poor match. Toulon don’t play as well as they used to , that’s for sure. They should’ve blown Sale out of the water. There was some good performances from Halfpenny, Gorgodze and Vermeulen.
Vermeulen was superb at the breakdown winning 3 key turnovers and working hard clearing out conceding no turnovers and gave a very physical performance up front despite a stupid yellow card. The Springboks in November will need him at his world class form. Wales will also be happy to see a fit Halfpenny for the internationals . Gorgodze gave his standard physical carries and metres helping Ollivon score his 5th try of the season which is great for a blindside and should be expecting that French call up soon.
